What About Us?

Roy J. Regalado - Principal Architect

Roy J. Regalado has a rich and varied history of over 42 years practicing architecture. As a young man in the sixth grade Roy decided to become an architect even though he wasn't quite sure what an architect did. The triangles, t-squares and slide rules looked like fun tools and the drawings met his artistic desire. All through high school Roy took every drafting class available and upon entering college he was the only one of his peers to declare as an architecture major and stick with it. He took the summer off after graduating from high school and in September started working for an architect. The year was 1967 and Roy was off and running. Those first years were spent learning what architecture was all about and more importantly, honing his drafting skills which would enable him to produce excellent construction documents.

Just to give you some insight into what was available in 1967, there where no calculators, no copiers, no desktop computers or cd players and certainly no cell phones, the world wide web or e-mail. To a young man of today working in architecture back them would certainly look like working in a cave. We used slide rules, mimeograph machines, carbon paper, manual typewriters, rub on letter transfers and good old pencils. We still created “blue” prints using an ammonia process that stunk to high heaven and we were thrilled when the first electric eraser came out. When we got our first desktop calculators we would first try the little black box and then check it with our slide rules. If you would like to know what the above items were and how they worked look for our upcoming book on ancient drafting methods of the 60's and 70's.

Since the start of Roy's career there have been many changes in the way we practice architecture. The single most important tool has been the computer and computer aided drawing. That and the large format inkjet printer which means we don't have to succumb to ammonia fumes anymore. RJ Regalado-Architect has always been in the forefront of advances in our industry. From establishing the first overlay methods to reduce repetitive drawing to organizing and streamlining the drafting process to being one of the first to embrace CAD drafting, Roy has lived and breathed architecture. For Roy, architecture has been his life and his life's work. He counts himself very blessed to have decided early in his life what he wanted to do and has been able to accomplish most of the goals he has set out for himself.

As you review the web site you will get a better understanding of Roy by seeing the great body of work completed over the years and the work on our boards now and in the future.

Stay tuned for additional bios on the rest of our team.
