This is an area that can confuse most people who are not engineers. If the architect is the quarterback of the team the engineers are the linemen. Before you think that the quarterback is the star and gets all the glory, he wouldn't if he didn't have a strong line to protect him and the running backs. Current codes make it necessary to prove that the structure will stay where it's put, that it won't fall apart, that all the utilities will work as they are suppose to and a habitable space will insure the welfare and safety of the occupants.
